Rules/FAQ
Rules
[1] Be nice. Treat other muns how you would be treated.
[2] No wank. It's hurtful and creates a bad atmosphere.
[3] No godmodding. It's unfair to everyone else.
[4] Fourth walling. This is allowed on the condition it accepted between all parties and it is in character for that to happen. This rule has a level of trust between muns and may be revoked if too many people break it.
[5] Posting format. Please use bracket spam on the main community. You may use whichever tense you feel most comfortable in your post and replies, first or third person. Currently there is no log community but if there is an overwhelming need for one, it can be created. This would be set in the usual prose style.
[6] Character limits. You may have six characters in total. You may have only one character per fandom. There are no other limits imposed although we do advise you not have all six characters of the same type. (Fandom, AU, Original, Previous game history)
[7] Playercest. As a rule, this is not allowed. As you cannot have more than one character per fandom, there should be no reason for your own characters to interact. If you believe you have found a scenario where this is not true, because of whatever reason, feel free to discuss this with a mod.
[8] Activity Checks and Requirements. These will be held on the first (1st) of every month. To pass Activity Check, you will need five comments per character. Posts do not count as comments.
If you cannot pass Activity Check, you must provide double Activity the next month.
If you cannot pass Activity Check for a second month in a row, you will be dropped and cannot reapply for two weeks. If you do reapply, your character can retain their memories but will have left the city.
Note: This is meant to be fun and relaxed but as we don’t want any character slots taken by slow players, this is why we have AC. Thank you for understanding.
[9] Hiatuses or Dropping. Use the page provided. To be exempt from Activity Check, you must be on hiatus for two weeks in a month. A list of characters exempt from Activity Check will be posted beforehand. Dropped characters have a week’s grace period for changes of heart. After that, the mun has to wait two weeks before reapplying for the character.
For more information on any of these rules, either reply to this post with your question or contact the mods directly. You can message the moderator journal or find specific mods on plurk or via AIM. We don’t bite!
FAQ
What happens when my character arrives in the city?
Character arrive in their bedrooms in their houses/apartment buildings. Their communicators are on the bedside table and they will be dressed in the clothes they arrived in. Any items/pets will also be in the room or on the bedside table. One extra thing will be on the bedside table as well as on the back of the bedroom door - A note that reads "Welcome to Sky High City. We hope you enjoy your stay."
So how do we communicate with others?
Everyone has a Pebble on arrival. It can display video feeds, voiceovers and text messages as well take as pictures and show maps. Essentially it’s a glorified mobile phone as they are these days. They cannot be smashed, opened or lost and can make any communication private if needed.
How does death work in Sky High City?
Death is permanent and acts like a drop. You can kill your character in any way you like, this includes having them fall off the edge of the city but you will have to wait two weeks before reapplying. There are events when death is no permanent but it is specifically stated in each event post and each character can only die once per event.
How does aging work in Sky High City?
Aging works the same way it usually does. Your character will age in the same way it would usually do. So beware.
But what if my character has powers?
Characters get to keep their powers as they were the day they were pulled into the city. But some powers maybe need to be limited. For example; the TARDIS from Doctor Who cannot leave the city either or Thor cannot use his hammer to fly away.
Can my character bring in pets or items from home?
Items that were on the character at the time of leaving are permitted. Pets can be allowed if they are small enough and nearby. For example; an owl in the same room can be brought if the mun wishes but not a horse in the stables two streets away. Only one pet can be brought but items have no limit. Pokemon count as pets. Certain exceptions can be made depending on the circumstances.
Can I canon update my character?
Yes you can. But you must apply for permission from a mod. The canon update must be more than a few pages/episodes and include something that changes the character. These will entail the character disappearing for a week and reappearing with the new memories. Again, certain exceptions can be made depending on the circumstances.
What if the character want to apply for isn’t human?
Then state that on the application form. They will not change their appearance or lose their powers like other character but must have enough canon to be played and be able to converse with other characters. Or how else will you be able to thread with them? These applications may be judged slightly harder than regular human applications but don’t let that discourage you.
My character doesn’t speak English. How will that work?
Let’s go with magic or very advanced science. Don’t complicate matters. Everyone somehow speaks English. Okay?
Can my character leave the city?
The simple answer is: No. The more complicated answer is: No. But also yes. There is only one way to leave the city and that is by falling off the edge. But this will result in death and therefore a drop. When your character nears the edge, they will feel an urge to turn back as well as heavy winds pulling them back. If they persist they will fall.
Is there currency here?
Nope. Everything is free. But the food stores building can be a tricky place to navigate. You may not come out with what you went in for.

What about Extreme Violence/Sexual Content?
This is a tricky question as it needs to compromise between “Yes, I don’t want to stamp out creativity and fun” and “No, this has community is children friendly.” So as a compromise, the answer is: Yes. But on the condition that a sexual thread is not used to pass Activity Check. All parties must agree to the content and the post has sufficient warnings. Thread with violence in may be used to pass Activity Check as long as the entire thread does not show all violence and there is a reason behind it as well as it being in character.
What about the places in the city?
There is an entire page about the places in the city. The Residences page lists every building in the city as well as the housing of every character. More information is listed there.
What's the deal with this Shrine then?
Well, it's a simple trade. Say, your pet or a picture of your family for perhaps the gold watch that your father gave you or your wedding ring, or even your ring finger. If it's really important, the memory of the event would also suffice. It's not picky about what it gets, as long as it's worth the same.
This also applies to the plots of land available for building. If you want a building that isn't already in the city, the Shrine will build it overnight for you. For a price. This is the only way to build in the city. So think carefully and choose wisely.
Please contact a moderator if you wish to use the Shrine.
Events were mentioned earlier. How often do they happen?
Events are not regular. If they were, the characters would be able to prepare for them. But in essence, there is usually one or two every few months. This game is not an event centric game. It is for characters to interact in the setting and for events to be something to help characters that wouldn’t usually talk, find something in common.
And before you ask, yes we can have player run events too. If you have an idea, pitch it to the mods and we will get back to you about it.
